Eric Reid was born on December 10, 1991 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Growing up he always showed athletic prowess across a broad range of sports. During his time at Dutchtown High School he participated in football, basketball, and track. On the football field he made 78 tackles, 9 sacks, 4 interceptions, and 3 fumble recoveries as a junior. During his senior year, he received Louisiana Class 5A All-state honors after registering 45 tackles and 3 interceptions. He made the Army Pro Team in 2010. Not only did Eric star on the football field, he was also an excellent track athlete, setting records and placing in short distance runs and hurdling events. Eric is a product of LSU, where he finished his career as one of the top defensive backs in school history. His career led to him receiving many awards, including First-Team All-American honors. During his sophomore year and first year as a starter Reid recorded 76 tackles, 2 interceptions, and 2 forced fumbles. His play drew the attention of the San Francisco 49ers, who traded up to take him as the 18th overall pick in the first round of the 2013 NFL Draft.




Upon arriving in San Francisco in 2013, Reid wasted no time settling into the NFL, earning a starting safety position his rookie year. In his first two games, Eric recorded 2 interceptions and established himself as a leader. Reid finished the season as the only player in the NFC to record 4 interceptions and 2 fumble recoveries. His aggressive style of play led to him becoming the first rookie to make the Pro Bowl in franchise history. To reward his efforts, the 49ers coaching staff presented Eric with the Thomas Harrison Memorial Award. An award given to the rookie or first-year player who has taken advantage of every opportunity and turned it into a positive situation. In May of 2016, the 49ers picked up the 5th year option on his contract. Throughout his NFL career, Eric has started in 57 games and has caught 8 interceptions for 205 yards. His longest return being 73 yards. Going into the 2017 season Eric is looking forward to improving as a player, and making valuable contributions to the team.
